The Australian Government’s Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) 2015 initiative classifies two-thirds of UTS research as ‘above’ or ‘well above’ world standard. UTS’s research spans a range of disciplines, including health, data sciences, sustainability, applied economics, robotics, civil engineering, microbiology and quantum computation.
The university is internationally-recognised for its innovative teaching and learning model, which is both practice-oriented and research inspired, and which integrates the best of online and face-to-face experiences.
UTS won the Hybrid Learning Innovation category of the 2015 Wharton-QS Stars Reimagine Education Awards in Philadelphia for its learning.futures initiative, a several-year-long program aligning future-focused curriculum with informed technology use, designed in tandem with a $1 billion transformation of the UTS City campus.
UTS graduates include acclaimed actor and producer Hugh Jackman; Sydney Peace Prize winner Sekai Holland; author and Miles Franklin Award winner, Anna Funder; Deputy Leader of the Labor Party, the Honorable Tanya Plibersek MP; 2015 Advance Award winners Professor Carolyn McGregor AM and Afghan women’s rights advocate Nasima Rahmani; and founder of China’s largest NGO, the Zhicheng Public Interest Law Organisation and winner of the 2015 Australia China Alumni Award, Lihua Tong.
