Southern Cross University is a multi-campus regional university with a vibrant profile of engaged teaching and research. The university takes pride in providing a personalised learning experience to its population of more than 14,000 students who attend its eastern seaboard campuses or study via distance education.

Lismore campus houses the majority of the university’s academic and research units. The campus is set on 75 lush hectares of sub-tropical gardens and walkways. Large floor space for environmental science and engineering, health and human sciences, law, visual arts and contemporary music are located at Lismore, which draws on the vibrant Northern Rivers arts scene for creativity and inspiration.

The university’s expanding southern Gold Coast campus offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in tourism, business and law, education, social welfare and social science, and a range of health sciences with state-of-the-art health facilities and a public health clinic.

The Southern Cross University Coffs Harbour campus is part of an educational precinct which includes the Coffs Harbour Senior College and North Coast TAFE. Business and tourism, education, psychology, nursing, midwifery and sport and exercise science degrees are among the courses on offer at the Coffs Harbour campus.

The university’s National Marine Science Centre is located at Charlesworth Bay in Coffs Harbour, with an extensive flow through seawater system to laboratories, a public aquarium, commercial hatchery and aquaculture tanks.

Southern Cross University continues to enhance its research capacity, with world-leading expertise in areas including geochemistry, plant science, environmental science and nursing. The university continues to grow its research income, with particular emphasis on Australian Competitive Grants.

The university received the top rating of ‘well above world standard’ in the specific research fields of Geochemistry, Oceanography, Environmental Science and Management, Zoology, Crop and Pasture Production, Forestry Sciences, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and Nursing, in the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) 2015 national report.

In the broader research fields, the university received the top rating of ‘well above world standard’ in Agricultural and Veterinary sciences. It received a further 15 ratings of ‘above world standard’ and ‘at world standard’ in research areas including Engineering and Medical and Health Sciences.
